If I have a sony FE11H purchased in the UK and I do a clean install of XP Pro then can i use software from the american website to make the media butons work etc, etc.

Would things like BIOS updates and chipset updates work? Are there any risks when doing this?

Im guessing since they are all FE models that the software controlling them will be the same, well im hoping that anyway. The british support site has 2 zip files - one that installs all the old drivers and one that installs all the old software which defeats the purpose of doing a clean install (thanks sony uk  )

    Thanks in advance.

Best thing to do IMHO is to make the Sony recovery DVDs when you get it - you'll get all the drivers and such. Then do your clean install of XP. Then look at some of the .ini files on the 1st DVD and that will give you the order you need to install things in for your PC.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

You make it sound so easy! I've heard horror stories about how people have had so much trouble getting their system running again.

On the DVD will the install files be in an accessable format? The files from sony uk are in wierd format thats not recognised. If they are in .exe format then that would be awsome!

Do a "Partial Clean Install" which removes all bloatware but keeps the drivers - you need the recovery DVD'. Search the forum and you will find it. I used it and it worked great.

The guides that the Wiki links you to are useless, so dont even look at them.

Isn't OSX basically crippled on a SZ120 system because:

    There is no sound
    No wireless
    No accellerated graphics
