I sent my Sony VPCZ1390X for screen repairs. Due to the bull international warranty coverage and regulations, it had to be shipped half way across the world to the US and back, taking 2 months in the process.
And now, it doesn't register the closed lid at all. Even the screen doesn't go dark.
I am NOT sending it back. How do I fix this please?
PS: Pressing a magnet just to the right side of the touchpad does put the computer to sleep.

Can I obtain a replacement part and simply insert it in? Or get a strong very thin sheet magnet and stick it by the cam? I really cannot part with my computer again for so long.

Or you could manually put it into the desired state - sleep/hibernate/shutdown before closing the lid. Inconvenient, but works perfectly; no other downside.

This was a $5000 machine I parted with 60 days at its most valuable time. They were going to fix a slight screen bruise, and forgot something so basic that it exists in all laptops. I cannot bring myself to forgive or forget this. I have to fix it or I'll go mad

$5000?! Give them hell. This is a field serviceable job - all that is needed is the missing part and someone trained to disassemble/reassemble the lid and pop the part in. No reason why Sony cannot send someone to your house to do that. Whether or not they do it depends on how big a stink you raise.

I live in Istanbul. The multinational Sony that is in the US apparently is not the same multinational Sony that is in Europe, so if I want anything done for free and under warranty, it needs to fly across Atlantic. And since used electronics import is regulated in Turkey, it needs to fly back with someone: In short, logistical nightmare.
The Sony in Turkey might take pity on me though, I'm trying.
