I am trying to cto a z.
I need some quick advice and suggestions, please!![]()
I will use this for blogging, flying schedules (flight attendant) and operating an online business (designer resale stuff), other than that I will use it for internet surfing and reading.
I want to CTO to this:
i7 620 processor
8GH RAM
512 GB SSD
regular CD/Burner
My question is this; Is it worth it have 8GB ram with 512 SSD or is 6GB ok?
I won't download a lot of stuff but I will have a lot of documents and photos. Possibly videos (flip camera).
I need a SSD to keep my drive safe with all of the in and out of the laptop bag going through all of the airport security that I fly. In other words, it needs to be able to survive the wear and tear of traveling in the skies.....![]()
Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated!![]()
Thank you!

I think the Z specs may be overkill for what you plan on doing with the laptop. But if you have your heart set on the Z, then I would definitely save your money and go with 4GB of RAM rather than 6 or 8, go with the i5 processor (not the i7) and also probably skip the 512GB SSD and go with something smaller.
There is nothing in your usage patterns according to your post that warrant top specs on RAM or processor. You also seem unlikely to ever need to use the Z's hybrid graphics system, unless you plan on watching any videos on a FHD TV, but kind of hard to do that on a plane (unless maybe you work first class on a 747
). That is a major advantage of the Z over other similar-sized notebooks that don't have discreet graphics cards. I don't think you'll need that advantage, and thus might look elsewhere.
If you have an enormous number of pictures and large videos, than maybe the 512GB SSD is worth it. But it doesn't sound like you'll have massive programs taking up space, and 512GB is a lot of storage for just videos, documents, and pictures. -
I agree to JP$. What you have configured is somewhat of the very best for far over 3000$. If you are a computer enthusiast needing the most power you can get you might take that if you have the money. For what you described, even 4GB and the i5 is far enough. Everything becomes pricey with the SSD, since you rarely find 512 GB SSD in today's notebooks. If you have the money, you will appreciate having much space to work with, if "lots of photos and documents" means you need 50gb of storage, go for a smaller SSD and save at least 1000$.
configuring Z1290 help!
