    can you connect a vaio s460 or vaio s380 to a tv? or is it not possible? is that what the s-video port is for? or can there just be a vga port or something, sorry for the dumb sounding question but i was just curious.

    To connect directly to TV through a cable, yes, you need a video out (s-video, d-sub, etc.) to transfer the video signal and another audio out (which you can just use the ear phone plug that every notebook has) to transfer the audio out. The only video output on S3xx/S4xx itself is VGA output (and USB output), which cannot connect directly to a TV. You would need to buy a signal conversion box for it. You can also buy a port replicator which has D-sub connector on it, but D-sub is not as common as s-video on lower end TVs.
