I want to connect my Sony Vaio laptop to my Samsung HDTV, to use as a monitor.

I've tried everything, all the instructions on the Samsung manual, instructions on the Sony manual, intructions on both websites, and various other forums.

Nothing's working. I'm using VGA cable as connectors.
But when I go to the input set up on the TV, "PC: input is shaded, meaning,
the Samsung is not detecting the Vaio.

I've done the FN/F7 to toggle from Vaio to TV, but nothing.
Has anyone else had this problem??
Anyone know how to get hook up a Samsung HDTV to a Sony Vaio,
to use the TV as a monitor?
    thanks

i've had this problem too and i dont know why, i have a sony vaio and try to connect it through vga. The laptop detects the tv, but the tv doesn't!! This is not the tv because i can connect my desktop to it, but it isn't the laptop because i can connect it to my other samsung monitor via vga. It has never worked and i really dont know what to do.
What lappy do you have? And what tv do you have? If you find any fixes for this problem, please tell me.

    thanks

    Hello
I have the same issue. The only difference is that Im using a vga to hdtv cable but nothing happens. I enabled the f7 function on my vgn ax570g, and set my westinghouse hdtv to automatic detection but just nothing happens!

Please, if anyone knows how to connect this two devices let me know...
    Sincerely...

I own an SR190 with ati card and a samsung A650. It works fine for me.
I first plug in the VGA cable go to the PC source

    press FN-F7

You can also use win-X to go to the mobility center connect display.

First of all, those of you with problems need to state which Vaio model you have, and which OS. Whenever asking for help here, this is the first thing you should do.
Especially in this case, because in some, but not all, Vaio models, there is a checkbox to use an alternative method for detecting external analogue displays. But not knowing what model you have, I won't bother telling where that setting is, because the odds are that you won't have the same model I have, and I just waste my time.
