ok, can someone tell me how to lock the processor speed at teh maximum level? according to cpuz it is fluctuating between 1 and 1.8 ghz even though i have set it cpu to level 5 using vaio power managment. anything else i am meant to do? cant see any other option available. unable to determine if this is normal behaviour or whether the cpu should lock at max speed under these settings. thanks

It's normal for your CPU to run at a lower speed under normal usage. This prevents your laptop from overheating. When you actually need all the horsepower, your CPU will automatically clock up to 1.8Ghz.

I would not recomend you lock the CPU to 1.8Ghz.

i've done some research and it seems their is no advantage to setting the laptop to run at full processor speed all the time, so i shoudlnt bother worrying about it. it does seem that vista has no option of 'turning off' speedstep, which xp apparently does.

EDIT: i seem to have replied at the exact same time as you! thanks for your reply, i came to the same conclusion.
