    cr220e will only charge battery when running

    CR220e running Vista Ultimate lately I've noticed that the battery will only charge when the computer is booted up and running. If I shutdown the laptop and leave the adapter attached the battery does not charge. If I boot it up it begins to charge. How I came to this is that when I shutdown the laptop I noted that the battery is say 75% charged. I shutdown and charge but even after an hour or so when I boot up it's at 75%, but immedietly starts to charge and the charged amount goes up with time while booted ie 76, 77 78, etc up to a full charge. I should note that the Vaio Battery care function is not enabled.
    Any ideas?
