i bought a s580 just over two months ago before the holiday season but a couple of dead pixels have developed on the bottom of my screen since then. is there anything i (or sony) can do about them? does my one-year warranty cover this at all? i'm not sure how many, exactly, are dead, but there are two small groups of them so i'm guessing there are maybe 5-6 of them. i could take pictures with my 1.3mp cell phone camera if that would help...

thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

If its still under warranty then yes you can take it back to them. Most brands usually have a 5-6 pixel dead policy so you should be fine. Or I suggest you give them a call.

I called on my s580 dead pixels.
The customer service guy was not any help. He read through a script about how dead pixels were part of the manufacturing process and that they were normal and that Sony only covers dead pixels if the dead pixels made the monitor not viewable but not if they were only a nusance. He told me that he had no authority to assist me and that I needed to call back during regular business hours so a supervisor could allow for a return.

I have yet to call back. Please let me know how it turns out.

I think most of the time, they replace it if its like 3-4 dead pixels in the middle of the screen and then they replace it if theres 6+ stuck pixels scattered throughout the screen.

i dont own or know too much about sony, but i do know that for ASUS and ACER that there is a rather complicated way to determine if your scren can get replaced.

it goes a little like this. Your screen is split into 9 squares, three wide by three high. then there has to be (i think) 3 dead pixels in one on these 9 areas, or three clusters of more than one dead pixel in any of the areas.

Furthermore bright pixels arent concidered to be as bad as 'truly dead (black) pixles and can be fixed (look for PSP pixel fixer on the net, its a video that flashed green, blue, red over and over again in a loop and after a few hours a stuck/bright pixel can/will regain its coulours again.

you'll have to check their webpage to get the exact polity. I even think it defferes from model to model, depends what company they got to make the screen for them.

    good luck
