Hello, firstly I apologise if this issue has already been raised in a past thread. I was wondering if someone could give me some advice or has experienced a similar problem. I bought a Sony VAIO TX3 at the end of September last year and generally speaking been very happy with its performance, especially the battery life. Towards the beginning of the summer however dead pixels started appearing at the bottom of the screen and have been spreading, slowly but surely, ever since. As the laptop is under warranty I called the Sony helpline in Belgium (I live in Brussels) and explained the problem to them. They asked me to send a photo of the screen before they sent someone out to repair it. I obliged, but when they got back to me they told me that they'd send the photo to their engineers who had decided in their infinite wisdom that as this was "physical damage", I was responsible for it and it was therefore not covered by the warranty. The only solution was to have the screen replaced at my own expense, something that would cost me almost 1000 eurosThey went onto tell me their engineers had never seen such a problem before on a TX3.
My question is, how the hell can I cause dead pixels on the screen? Sure I carry the laptop around a lot and it takes the odd knock, but surely it's designed to withstand such things (you don't buy an 11 inch screen laptop to leave it at home the whole time).

I'd be grateful for any advice and comeback you think I may have. Sony did tell me if I disagreed with their assessment I could have it properly diagnosed by them although at my own expense (a couple of hundred euros I seem to remember).
Obviously I'm furious with Sony and think they're simply passing the buck, but if someone tells me it's perfectly possible for the dead pixels to have been caused by myself, then I may change my views.

This is the second time this issue was mentioned on this forum. The first discussion can be read here and, similar to your sitation, the OP's screen tear was not caused by user negligence. If they ultimately decide not to repair it under the warranty, you may want to try to find an LCD panel on eBay and install it yourself. The TX disassembly service manual can be downloaded here.
