I am shopping for a laptop and sony is in the shopping list.

I checked sony laptops at Bestbuy (NS and NR series) and noticed that the touchpad do not have vertical-scroll capability. this is an important feature. Can sony touchpad do vertical scrolling?

I'm sure they do. You'll have options to set it in the touchpad software.

They Do. They have both vertical and horizontal. You just press to their far right or far bottom to use it.

I had gateway laptop before and I know how it worked. but Bestbuy Sony vertical/horizontal scroll did not work. I tried both models NS and NR. maybe they did not enable it from software. all Dell and HP laptop work fine but sony

If you're shopping at Best Buy, they install their own stuff (kind of like a fresh install) on the laptops, which does make features like scrolling missing. I wouldn't worry, I think all laptops have some sort of scrolling.

I used to work at Best Buy for 2 years in their PC department. We installed what was called A.R.C.H.I.E. It is an installer that presets a lot of the system settings to show information as well as demo the product. Also, however, it is used to lock several features down and make it to wear customers can't accidentally or intentionally damage the system. While I was there, I don't recall the track pad being affected, but to be honest I did not really check for it either. Also, it is possible that they have updated it to include that as well. So, I would just blame it on the Best Buy installed software as I have also used those models series in a Sony Styles Store and vertical and horizontal scrolling worked fine for me.
