I have Sony laptop VAIO VGN-NR21S. When I formatted the hard drive everything was deleted, including the recovery partition. I do have Sony recovery disc, but every time I try to Restore the Complete System (including windows vista) I get this error: Error: MakeIniFromMcode, Error:89
I tried to access the hard drive disk utility by tapping F10, the only thing I get is Operating System is not Found (when the recovery CD is out). Is there anyway I can get windows vista installed, without sending my computer back to Sony. I am extremely frustrated with sony poor and expensive technical service. I appreciate any help you can offer.

    Thank you for your help.

I know that you can download iso images Windows 7 distributives so I guess somewhere must be Vista too. Download same type distributive which you have (pro, home or ultimate etc.) You can type in your key which is on the bottom of laptop.

This might be a good opportunity for you to move to Windows 7. Or, if you don't want to spend the money just yet, the developers preview of Windows 8 is out - it will stop working in March 2012, so you have some 6 months of a fully functional Windows OS. ComputerCowboy is using it as his primary OS, so it should be good enough for you too.

If you still want to use your Vista OS, search this forum for clean install options for your model.
