Are you guys using the display driver from the Sony esupport website or the ATI software support website??

I just wanted to know which driver was better or if they are both the same thing?
Also is the display driver from ATI more update then the Sony esupport?

From what I've read here you want to use the driver from Sony, particularly if you have the hybrid, switchable graphics. If there is any difference it might be that Sony has tested the drivers meant for their machines or might have made changes for compatibility, like the switchable graphics for instance.

In addition ATI might stick you with the junky catalyst software which would not be an improvement for a laptop for sure.

Not so fast cowboy. Catalyst is very important for some people, such as myself. It allows better control over external devices (and setting of custom profiles), has overdrive for overclocking, allows the monitoring of temperature, and much more. Not to mention the fact that those drivers may be much newer than what Sony distributes, and thus may have better performance and reliability.

To the thread starter, for an ATI chip, go for the newest drivers you can find, whether it's on ATI's site or others.

I'll stand corrected but I'd have to say you're the first person I've run across that likes the catalyst setup. While my laptop is Nvidia my desktop has an ATI card and I find the software, well, junky. The basic driver works fine.

For the original poster, I would say that unless you are having problems with video you are less likely to have new, additional problems sticking with the drivers from sony. Since the video on a laptop is not guaranteed to stick to ATI's reference designs the drivers direct from ATI may in fact be more of a problem than the original drivers that came with your laptop.

Right now i have the newest display driver for the 3650 from Sony esupport. I just install the display driver only version 9.2 from ATI support website.

Will there be a differences in performance? or Do I have to uninstall the Sony catalyst display driver and install ATI catalyst control center for the ATI display driver to take effect?
