I did a semi-clean install by following the post here. I can still find there are some programs like MS SQL Server 2005, MS SQL Server Native Client, MS SQL Server Setup Support Files, MS SQL Server VSS.

do any important uitilities depend on these?

"Vaio Media" the app that allows you to share your media files onyou home network (NOT the internet) is the only application that relies on SQL server. In fact if you uninstall Vaio Media it should uninstall SQL server automatically.

If you have the MS Office Trial version installed then it includes Small Business Contact Manager which uses SQL. As a matter of fact, people who purchase their VAIO online and buy Office basic have to specifically uninstall this component because it keeps popping up with Outlook as trial since this component is not a part of Office Basic.
