Honestly,I cannot recommend this model, having plain CCFL backlit screen instead of the LED one.
Go for any marked equally or higher than ...650...,eg. sz650,sz660...,sz750...etc (this sort of marking refers to US/Canadian market only),unless you are on tight budget.

Having the CCFL backlit screen isn't all that bad, but what would turn me off of getting the SZ645P2 is that you could get an SZ740 for a similar price, but with the newer, faster Intel chips in them, and you'd get the XP downgrade disk in the box if that was your concern.

Regarding the rest of specs mentioned, you are absolutely right.
    However,no agreement on CCFL/LED issue;that last one,together with Dell's M1330,beats the other 13.3"s in mass.
Ultimately, aren't we going to over :)pay for its contrast ratio, brightness, carbon lid, then finally sexy thin look?

Don't get me wrong. I vastly perfer the LED backlit screens on SZ's, but if he's looking for a deal (which with the SZ's coming to the end of their cycle here, he's going to find) he's going to find it on the CCFD models first, and can save $100+ for comparable specs if that is his main concern.

thanks for all the input guys.

Reason I am looking in to this model becuase it's the one that I liked for quite some time, the silver casing as well as the carbon cover.

The Sony store near by my place is having a discount on it for $1700 and with windows XP which is what I wanted.

I just want to make sure this laptop does not have any issues as far as performance.

    thanks

Whoa. Where do you live, because that price is way to high if you live in the US.

If you're anywhere near the boarder, head south to buy one. Much better pricing. There were SZ640s for $740 just this past weekend!

Again-you will not find any carbon fibre piece in models marked below ...650.This sort of stuff is applied exclusively in those models with LED backlight.

You will also not find silver casing along with carbon lid in any model.
    None.
    Black only in a whole.

    Get my previous post,please.
