    Seagate Momentus ST9750420AS 750GB 7200 RPM
    SAMSUNG Spinpoint MP4 HM640JJ 640GB 7200 RPM

which one is better for upgrading for my z540?

as i know, there is no hdd protection sensor intergrated in SAMSUNG HM640JJ,
if i use the SAMSUNG HM640JJ to upgrade hdd for my z540, whether sony z540 still has hdd protection function? in other words, whether z540 has its hdd protection function?

Seagate Momentus ST9750420AS seems have hdd function intergrated, called G-Force Protection technology....
it is a new released hdd , there is very few user reviews, so i am not sure....

    thanks

I believe the Z series come with a built-in shock sensor on the notebook. If so, you dont need another one on your hard drive as they do the same thing. Having two shock sensors on both ends might have adverse reactions.

Pretty simple, check the model info on the OLD drive. If it has a sensor, your new drive needs one. If the old drive has no sensor, then the new ones does not.

There's two pieces to the puzzle. There's a sensor, and a super-fast head parking mechanism. The sensor can be either built-in to the drive, part of the laptop, or both. The benefit of having it part of the laptop is that the user can see when it's engaged, and also adjust the sensitivity.
The instant head parking mechanism, on the other hand, has to be present in the drive. If it isn't, the laptop detects the fall, tells the drive to park its heads, but the drive ignores the signal, or does a slow head park.
Many manufacturers these days sell their drives in two or three versions -- with or without the sensors and rapid head parking. You pay more for the extra features.

    thanks guys

if i just do not install the sony's sensor software for my z540, that will be disable the sensor of z540, right?
so i can use Seagate Momentus ST9750420AS 750GB 7200 RPM which already has hdd protection sensor built in?
