Found out yesterday that my new Sony laptop (vgn-fz290e) supports burning/reading dvd-r DL. I purchased the well positive reviewed Verbatim DVD-R DL. I tried burning the near full 8GB capacity full of .wav files as data dvd. I tried this 2 times and got the attached error. Not sure why. Never had this issue with regular DVD-RW

Try burning with a non-wizard program like DeepBurner (free at http://www.deepburner.com/). If you still have trouble, try burning at a lower speed. Media still misburns, so lower speed burns can succeed where full speed burns fail.

try upgrading the drive firmware and burn again.

although verbatim makes the best dl disks (especially those that are made in singapore) you may have a bad batch

Keep in mind that "upgrading the drive firmware" gets thrown around just a little too often as a suggestion for notebooks. This is a great idea for desktop drives, but there frequently ARE no firmware updates for notebook drives. If you can find one, awesome, but don't be surprised if you can't.
