If I bought a Sony laptop, new, off ebay would Sony honor their warranty? Or would it not even transfer? Not exactly sure how the warranty works, from date of registration or from the time the seller bought it?

The best advice I can give you is to call Sony and find out...if at all possible try to get it in writing as well.

FYI, they'll always consider the warranty from the day it was purchased by the original owner. So if you're buying a 1 year old notebook that has a 3 year warranty you're only getting the remaining 2 years.

No. Sony will not honor ebay purchase. Sony basic warranty is NOT transferable. Only first owner is eligible.

However, if the seller is a dealer and if he can issue an invoice of the transaction showing that the product is new, your purchase can be covered by warranty.

No. unless the seller can provide a printed dealer invoice of the transacton. I asked Sony about this. But, if the product has a thirdparty warranty like Bestbuy one, or Sony's extended onsite warranty, it is transferable.

I bought my AR150G off of eBay. It was still sealed in box when it came, backlight went out a few weeks later and I had it warrantied by Sony. All they asked me for was the problem, serial number, model, when I purchased it.
