I noticed that in a quiet room, with the laptop about a foot from me, I hear a slight "click" noise right when the fan starts up and spins down. Doesn't bother me, but thought it was interesting to note. I sounds like a normal fan when operating and the sound is very faint. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

Its probably your hard drive parking its head when not in use/idle. Does it always do it only when the fans go on?

it certainly is the fan. it only does it when the fan goes on or off.

again, it doesn't bother me, as your ear pretty much has to be right next to the vent in a quiet room to hear it. the sound lasts for a split second as the fan spins up and down.

I found this on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFdpRrRsAdc. That's the noise, but mine seems much, much, quieter and is barely audible unless you're in a completely quiet room and very close to the fan.

I was wondering if this is in fact a characteristic of all laptop fans in small enclosures perhaps? And has anyone replaced the fan themselves? I wonder if worse case, down the road, I can replace the fan myself if this is a sign of it going bad.

Sounds like the fan is clipping into something when accelerating.

has anyone taken the bottom off one of these laptops? I wonder if i can check it out and see if maybe a wire is hanging or something. i've noticed the loudness varies among others who have the issue. mine seems of the quietest.

Can any CS owners confirm a faint clicking sound from their fan when it begins to spin up and after it has spun down? I've heard of others having this issue but want to see if it is a common issue. It's a faint click so you may need to be in a quiet room. Thanks.
