So, I'm very close to pre ordering a new Vaio Z. I'm located in the US, and all of the models include a PMD, which I have no use for/do not want.

I noticed on the Sony UK site, the most basic PMD is a 400 gbp option (800 USD!!).

Do you think I'd have much luck selling one of these on a foreign ebay? Would be nice to offset the cost by a few hundred bucks, considering I would never use it.

There certainly could be a market for this, but you also don't have to alienate US buyers. It's very likely that some user in the US would like an extra PMD so they could have one at home and one at the office. Honestly, it's pretty stupid how these aren't sold separately by Sony themselves when they could be making extra money.

By the way, GBP has not been a 2:1 ratio to the USD for a few years now. 400GBP is now 646USD. And if you put it on eBay, expect to lose ~30% (just a guesstimate, never sold anything on eBay) to fees.

C'mon man, Ebay does not take 30% in fees.
9% Max $100 . Plus a few percentage points to paypal and a small insertion fee.

and the fact that no one's going to pay 400 pounds for it since they can order it through sony for that price and get a warranty. Factor the price they'd pay - the ebay fees and i'm thinking 30% might be conservative...

PMD should be an optional part. It does seem a must-have for new Z series ans costs too much. I wish it could be an optional accessory which makes Vaio Z series 650 USD cheaper !

Yeah, but depending on price: in Europe WITHOU PMD the laptop is 100$ more expensive then in US WITH PMD. If we buy also PMD we spend at least 680$ more. In addition we wouldn't have valid warranty here. So, it would must be really cheaper then here.

A lot of us prefers a dock station for desktop eGPU.. that's why we're trying to see what we can do about.
