    hi guys,

my sz ive had it fora couple of weeks now. Most things are fantastic and i love it. i have a few problems that are starting to however get quite annoying

    1) Java black screen in speed mode - i read in another thread i would have to uninstall the display drivers - will they automatically be re-installed upon startup? i dont want a paperweight sz, i already tried downgrading to 1.4.2 J2RE but that unfortunately didnt solve he problem

    2) The other is for the weeks ive had it my P2P program Ares just hogs all the bandwidth when on stopping broswing from occuring.

    3) the one that has really got me troubled as they is no logical work around. with the java issue i can operate in speed mode, with ares i can just shut it down BUT now my wireless netowrk i half the time can not connect to the internet. It randomly works correctly and other times does not. I am connected to the network with no issues and everyone else on the network is accessing the internet fine (home network). I have no proxy and have tried disabling all firewalls to help but still no luck randomly it likes to stop acessing the net.

EDIT - if i run msn troubleshooting it seems to always (when this issue occurs) give me an error about key ports not functioning correctly

if there are any suggestions or tips for any of these problems i would be most appreciative. thank you guys

I have the network problem, though not as severe. My wireless only works if I have it turned it on before booting up windows. If I turn it off and than on I will have to restart the computer for it to work. And it connects to the network, but my browsers/messenger/p2p program don't work. So I just make sure I have it on before turning on my computer to aviod problems.

i see thanks jandro...i unfortunately havemine on constatnly but ill try the reverse and only turn it on after it boots up...u never know!

i think i may have a small work around - running msn troubleshooter seems to after a few runs give it all a kick start - very strange....the main thing is that it only has recently happened but i have not installed any new software

yeh it is really strange not many people have had problems. Mine is and SZ18 but i dont see why this would make adifference. i dont think its java as the java apps actually load just the screen dies. so i am quite sure its a driver problem i just dont want to know of any other drivers i could try or like i said if i uninstall it it will re install with no problems on boot up - just dont want the stamina side to die...i like it too much for my games haha

I'm having the exact problem with my wi-fi network. It will just randomly stop working. Other notebooks on my network still work fine.

If I disconnect and reconnect, it works again.

No Java or wireless issues here - question, did you do a "clean" install or something?

ok its official my wi-fi is now dead! i cant connect to the internet at all (currently wired up to my router- defeats the purpose of my portable laptop!)

i dunno why and how but from randomly not working it just doesnt work at all. connecting to other computers printers, file sharing - no problem at all just the internet.

msn is saying something is wrong with my key ports and that i need to configure my firewall and or proxy. i have disabled my firewall and i have no proxy still no luck. i am sure the DNS is fine becuase it can recognise google, or hotmail just not connect. i can ping the servers as well.

sunfox thats the worst bit its stock standard no clean install or partial restore ironically because i was worried i may be stuck like this for a while until i had the drivers set up properly.

it must be a settings issue i think because i even restarted in safe mode so no other program could conflict still no luck - no idea what settngs though.

any crazy ideas will do me at this moment in time im desperate. im on the verge of doing a system restore but really would prefer not having to

EDIT - if i do i system restore using the recovery discs will i loose all information on the Ddrive partition aswell?
    thanks guys

I had an issue with my SZ running wireless and Limewire P2P at the same time. This is pretty well documented on the Limewire boards with a number of different laptop wireless systems. I had to ensure that I wasn't running a firewall behind a firewall by punching a hole out for the right port. I had the exact same symptoms you are talking about.....any other computer/laptop on my Linksys wireless system would work fine, but my SZ couldn't surf at all when Limewire was running. Wired was fine, just not wireless. Once I got my ports straightened out, no more problems.

It's possible your wireless card's radio has died or is dieing. My last laptop had the card die over an 8 hour process. To begin with everything was fine, perfectly functional. Then it started disconnecting and reconnecting every now and again. Then that got worse to the point where it would connect with "excellent" signal strength but I could do little else. I figured it was security settings and spent forever testing things. Then but a little while later it would connect and get DHCP information and I could ping the gateway, but then the signal would suddenly drop to "poor" and "disconnected" and start over reconnecting. A while later there was absolutely nothing, it wouldn't even see the access point. A new wireless card completely solved the problem (for the past 3 years).

Not saying that's what you have, but it's possible. There should be NOTHING you can do to wireless settings to require a system restore.

yeh i dont know whati could have possibly done either.

thats the most frustrating thing it isnt that it doesnt connect to the network that is no problem at all i always have excellent strength and can go about file sharing with ease its just going onto the actual internet that it cannot do.

i have a feeling that same how the ports (obviously something i did or installed since no one else uses it) have been limited blocked or something else i dunno.

yeh i hope i dont have to do a system restore! if i can get how to "punch" this hole as vaiofan did it may solve the problem as it di for him - fingers crossed

i think i may try putting in a PCIMA wirless network card and see if that works properly - will let u guys know

EDIT - ok using my belkin card allows me to use the internet pefrectly fine how frustrating - any thoughts what it may be??

EDIT - AMAZING after uninstalling the belkin software to let windows rehandle wireless connections so i could keep playing around and solve the problem i didnt have to! 2 of my problems were solved i can now connect to the net after connecting to the wireless connection and my Ares no longer hogs all the bandwidth.

just need to get java working in speed mode so if anyone know how to fix it please let me know

thanks for all of your help....much appreciated
