    sometimes my pc makes a single loud beep (even when on mute).. my wifi is off, my volume/speakers are off, i dont have to be doing anything...it can just be idle on desktop and it will randomly beep..

    this happens once in a while..like every week or two...

    any idea?

    hi all, it happened again... pc has only been on for like 20 minutes and it made that loud beep... sounded like it came from the upper left hand corner of the laptop (near esc key corner) any ideas?

    BIOS beep codes for Sony® notebook computers.

    * 1 short/no error - (Normal. POST successful)
    * 1 long 2 short - (Video Controller Failure or faulty add-on card)
    * 1-3-3-1 - (DRAM refresh failure)
    * 3-3-1 - (Parity Circuit Failure)
    * 1-3-1-3 - (System Timer Failure)
    * 1-4-1-3 - (Processor Failure)
    * 1-3-3-1 - (Keyboard Controller / Gate A20)
    * 1-3-4-3 - (Virtual Mode Exception Error)

    Ok, I got the 1 short beep, but why does it do it so randomly?

    anybody have an answer?

    Those BIOS beeps ONLY occur during the boot process. Actualy BEFORE the boot process. POST = Power On Self Test.

    Did you look in the logs to see if there was any event corresponding to the beep time? Was the machine sitting idle? What was running?

    Check maybe you have a stuck key in the keyboard that could also produce the beeping sound.

    A stuck key would cause a repeated beep not just a single beep like Duke2007 is reporting.
