Each time I close my laptop lid, hibernate, then later open the lid to resme windows, there is a notice "a usb device has malfunctioned" and it's my printer.

so... I have to power the printer on and off each time that happens...

so is this an issue with the printer, the OS, or the laptop?

    thanks.

    First try this:

Device Manager --> expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers and right-click the first 'USB Root Hub' and select 'Properties.' On the 'Advanced' tab, unselect 'Allow computer to disable this to save power.'
    Repeat with all USB hubs

There have been some hotfixes to Vista lately relating to issues with hibernation/sleep mode and certain USB devices. You might check into those. I don't think they are al part of a Windows Update cycle, yet.
