    k, new laptop.

bought oem vista ultimate and installed on hdd replacing vista home premium.

now my function keys dont work no matter what drivers i download from the sony support site.

Also im getting a "battery not compatible" caution window. it only gives me the option to go into hibernate.........so i went into task manager and ended the process.....

Any ideas? did i fubar it?

Look at my signature line below for a step by step guide to doing a clean install of Vista on an FZ190. The FZ290 series is pretty much the same. The recovery DVD mentioned is a bit different in terms of what auxiliary apps it contains. But it is VERY important that you install things in the correct order. Also there are drivers AND applications you need to install for things like power management, battery functionality and function keys to work.
