Hey I just bought a generic high capacity battery (7200mAh 11.1V) off ebay for my sony sz330p laptop. The generic battery replaces VGP-BPL2 and VGP-BPS2.

The problem is when my laptop is using the battery only w/o power plugged in, the laptop just keep shutting off when I start windows. Sometimes shuts off at bios. After the laptop shuts off I cannot turn it back on unless I plug the power cord back in or use the original sony battery. I have heard that some people have had a problem with their laptop not recognizing their generic battery when turning on and have to disable isbmgr, but I do not have ISBmgr installed. One way to be able to use the battery is by not using the battery only when loading windows, then can put it back in afterwards. The battery was doing ok if I use the web or typing in word, but when playing counterstrike it shuts off. The generic battery worked in my FE series laptop with no problems

Does it matter what battery model you use from different model laptops, because most of the sony laptops have the same looking batteries? I have used my FE series battery (VGP-BPS2B) with this laptop and it works fine. If you guys know what the problem may be please let me know sorry for the long story. Thanks

Hey I edited the description didn't check completely. The battery doesn't have a name or serial, just has model and basic warning stuff.

The laptop started up ok one time after waiting for like 7 hrs and then problem came back again. This battery time remaining when its full is like 2hr35min. That doesn't seem high capacity because when I use my FE series battery in it only has 2hrs not much of difference. Also i'm using windows vista.

Did you check the compatibility list on the ebay listing. I was looking at getting one also and I noticed that some listings on ebay list the SZ series while other dont and they replace the same model battery. If not then talk to the seller cause it might be a defective battery.

Although they are much cheaper than branded batteries, I am not very high on generics. There are certain specifications and standards that don't have to be met when made by unauthorized manufacturers.

There's a section describing this more in detail in the battery guide.

I know Sony is one of the manufacturers that disables the usage of batteries that the system doesn't recognize as one of its own. They do this for a reason--which is also discussed in the battery guide.

Yea the auction didn't list the sz model, but i thought it would work because most of the sony laptop batteries look a like and thought it wouldn't matter. I have contacted the seller, but I don't know if I can get a refund.

There are also model-specific specifications that may not be being met by this battery...as tb311 has pointed out.

Has this battery worked normally at any point?

If I don't startup windows without battery itself and then swap it back in, it works fine when I using the internet or doing little task, but when playing cs source it shuts off.

So I'm taking that as a no, it has never functioned normally.

There are a number of risks involved with using generic batteries, as covered in the battery guide.

Yea if you look at some ebay batteries they specify that it works with the SZ while some dont. So it looks like you got the one that didnt support the SZ. I dont know if the buyer will take it back or refund you but you could just repost it on ebay if it works on your FE and just get one that does support the SZ.
