You have the machine for about a week.

So, did those buttons work in those past few days, or they just failed now ?

Also, what were you doing prior to knowing that those buttons failed ?

(The above may provide some clues for forum members, here.)

These buttons were functioning before i removed pre installed norton antivirus and installed McAfee.

I hv created recovery discs ... if i restore from those discs will it help?

and if i restore from discs
all my personal data ll be lost & norton ll be reinstalled??? is it?

At this point, we know that there appears to be no hardware problem with your machine. Now you see how useful your additional information can be.

You were clever in having created recovery disks for factory defaults. We'll use them for Plan B, if Plan A fails. Of course, there will be Plan C. No Plan D as yet.

Plan A, the optimistic plan : At the surface of what you described, I suspect that there is a driver software problem with your keyboard. Try the followings :

    - Start your notebook and login as "Administrator".
    - Get internet connection.
    - Goto "Start" ---> "Control Panel" ---> "Classic View".
    - Double-click on "Device Manager" icon.
    - Double-click on "Keyboards".
    - You will see a line description of your keyboard. Right-click on this line description and choose "Properties".
    - Select "Driver" tab.
    - Click on "Update Driver" button. Follow the instruction provided and choose the option that allows automatic driver updating from the internet.
    - When driver update is complete, restart your machine and try those buttons to see if they work.

Plan B, abit problematic : Your recovery disks needed. Make at least 2 copies of all your work files / data then do a restore from your recovery disks. You will have to re-install your preferred anti-virus software.

Plan C, getting serious : Send your machine for servicing.
