    hi,
ive been given an old sony vaio laptop the pcg5426 but it has not got the external cd drive or external floppy drive, which this model originally came with.
my problem is how do i install win xp on this machine, when i start it up it just says operating system not found. without the cd and floppy i cant figure out how to put xp on this laptop.
i have my own external dvd drive, but when i plug it in to the sony it will not boot the xp disk to start the install.
    any ideas.

    all help would be appreciatted.

    thanks.

I used to have one of those - you will need the Vaio CD Drive (PCGA-CD51 I think) because if I remember correctly, the bios does not recognize anything but the proprietary drives.
