my sister has this FE that was purchased from circuit city...

    1.66GHz core duo
    1GB ram
    120GB HDD (i think?)

i think that was way back early this year. then early july, she told me that her laptop was acting "sluggish". i mean totally at snail-speed performance.

when she opens "My Documents" or any other folder she has, it takes her approximately a minute to get it to open. i know my sister is kind of a noob in laptops but hey, she knows that it is freaking and f****** slow for a coreduo even if it is only 1.66GHz. only image files and mp3's are inside her machine. bloats were removed but still... a slow-poke!

could anyone recommend me something? she can't return it yet to the store since she is busy... thanks

    Run anti-spyware programs.
    Do a Disk Defragment.
Look for programs that continuously run in the background, that could be uninstalled or deleted.

Ultimately, every computer needs a reformat and this sounds like the perfect thing to do here. If that is not an option, open up the task manager and see what is stealing all of the CPU cycles. Try to end the unneeded processes (probably viruses and spyware slowing down her computer) and if you cant do it there then start>run "msconfig" and disable all unneeded services and startup programs (quicktime/movie player, more spyware, music player stuff, etc). Reboot. Then get Ewido anti spyware, ad-aware se personal, and spybot search and destroy. Run one, reboot, run the next, reboot, etc. Than finish up with Jestar's recommendations. If she has mcaffee or any other bull**** av software then get rid of it, download AVG free and do a virus scan as this could be a culprit too. Good luck!

Just do fresh install. She probably intalled hell of lots of programs. It's possible to fix it but you have to have a pro working on computer because you need to clean all the **** on PC (old temp, ad-ware, spyware, viruses, trojans, etc.) and then fix WinXP cuz it's probably dying. So my best advise is to format everything and reinstall
