    i-link s400 is firewire 400 (aka IEEE 1394).

In device manager you should have an entry called "IEEE 1394 bus host controller". If you don't have this entry then:

    1) open a run prompt and type "hdwwiz" (without quotation marks). This will open the hardware wizard.
    2) Check "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)" then click next.
    3) Select "IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller" and click next.
    4) Choose the legacy driver for the broadest compatibility and finish.
    5) Plug in your DV Cam and see if the hardware is detected.

    hi hayte,
thnk u so much fr ur kind help.

yes, i have "IEEE 1394 bus host controller" in device manager. under which "Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller" is written. its property shows that "This device is working properly and is enabled".

but after opening & plugging my DV Cam, my PC is not detecting my Cam nor giving any response for same.

plz tell me what can i do next?

Since it's IEEE1394, it might actually be only utilized for video stream, and not data transfer. You have to check your camera to see if it allows data transfer over Firewire.

Ok, can you rule these out for me?

    1) Does the camera use firewire 800 or firewire 400?

    2) Do you have a Texas Instruments firewire chipset? I notice that using my google fu, there are ALOT of people experiencing DV Cam troubles over firewire and that Texas Instruments firewire drivers are routinely circulated. I doubt these drivers would work if you don't have a TI chipset.

    3) Can you confirm that the firewire cable isn't broken? If you have other firewire peripherals can you check if these work?
