I'm just wondering if anyone has been able to fix this problem. My fan ran silently for the longest time until blew some air in the vent to clean out the dust and now it rattles incessantly. So I'm thinking all I need to do is take this thing apart and manually clean the fan but I'm not sure how easy that's going to be as I've never opened it up before. Has anyone ever solved the fan noise issue without sending it back to sony?

It's screwed to the mainboard. To change the fan you have to be able to take the mainboard out of the case.

Mine is and has always been doing a small noise, getting much moe noisy when using some graphics intensive task, but on idle, I still hear a small noise...
Is it normal? Oh and a bit of topic but, is it too bad to use my laptop like 10h a day, then shutting it down when I sleep then 10h again, etc... for a long period? Have a SZ650...

Well just to update I am able to get to the fan from the top and bottom. I took the advice of another user on here and applied some WD40 to it which helped a little... I mean it was really starting to roar before. I think now I might take it all completely apart and really clean that sucker because I'm convinced it's just really dirty from the sound it's making.

Please let us know how things turn out. Was the fan hard to access? Did cleaning help?

The fan on my SZ goes "rrrrrgggrrrrrrrggggrrrrrrrrrggrr" almost all the time now and I'm afraid it is dying....

    Thanks!
