    hey everyone

ive taken apart this laptop before to replace the hd, add AS to the cpu and what not

i know how to take off the cpu heatsink, but the fan component that is attached to the vid card- how do i go about removing that? its making unnatural noises when it is spinning, and i want to see if i can either fix or replace it

i dug around on the net but only found pics on removing keyboard/hd/cpu

    any help is appreciated, thx

i just did this a couple of days ago. unfortunately, you have to disassemble almost the whole notebook except for the lcd. so, I suggest you go in the following order (that's what i did):

    1. hard drive enclosure
    2. PCMCIA bus
    3. CD-ROM
    4. processor radiator
    5. small a/v controller to the right of the mic/audio out jacks.

Beneath this controller there is a hexagonal (or maybe pentagonal) screw you have to figure out how to remove it (i used a pair of small pliers).

After this you unscrew all the screws holding the motherboard. I had trouble removing the LCD cable so i left it attached to the motherboard. Then you have to take the motherboard out of place and tilt it. On its other side you will see the three screws holding the GPU radiator (2) and the fan itself (1) to the motherboard. You unscrew those and the fan is ready to be removed. Be careful, though, not to apply too much pressure as the radiator is stuck to the GPU so go gently about it.

Then you put the new radiator in place and do everything in reverse order.

    Have fun!

ahh i was hoping it didnt have to come down to that

right now i just unplugged the fan, undervolt the cpu, and underclock the vid card- so its dead silent and still stable

gonna be a hassle if i have to take the whole thing apart since i dont hav a replacement.. just lookin to see whats wrong argh
