    i don't get sony's pricing

    so, i checked sonystyle today and the tz285 is available for pre-order for 3099. the tz195 is still listed at 3399.

    as far as i can tell, the only difference between these 2 machines is:

    1. 285 has bordeaux, 195 has premium black carbon fiber
    2. 285 has u7700 proc, 195 has u7600 proc

    since the newer model with better proc is 3099, wouldn't you think sony would drop the price on the older model (195 - 3399) with the older proc?

    am i missing something??? did the SSD change on the newer model? hopefully they didn't sacrifice the quality of the SSD on the newer tz285 just to drop the price.

    anyone?

    I believe Sony just hasn't dropped the price on the older model yet. They will eventually lower the price or take it off the product page altogether. The price on the TZ195 is "outdated".

    Plus the prices are whatever they can get the computers out the door for. The current price of the tz could be slashed to try and get better sales for that model. It might also depend on production costs which would depend on what deals have been made with what manufacturers and distributors for all we know the mainboards could be cheaper now. Sonys business plan in the last few months was to cut prices in all divisions with the change in management hence the scary drop in prices of the ps3. Then theres the large cost of woven carbon fibre to factor in. Thats not the craziest price difference though on the cr2 line look at the difference in cost between the white and pink models ;)

    Sony notes the items are not available for shipping until 3-4-08. And that's an estimate. They are also charging shipping and tax. It's unknown when this computer will be at the local reseller where the item might be free shipping and no tax.

    If you want the system now, the price will probably be the same.

    If you can wait six to eight weeks, the 195 tz will probably drop to around 2999. I really can't see much drop more than that. The chip upgrade and color aren't really worth much more than 100 or 200 dollar premium
