    i empty out trash and my HD gets less space?

    i had a 10GB file... HD is at 209 used... when i deleted the file it went to trash and my HD went up to 219... then i empty trash can and my HD goes to 229, i noticed this a few times after empying out my trash, is this temporary or do i have to manualy delete the area where it went? how do i permanently delete my junk?

    What OS? If Vista, run "Disk Cleanup" from Start Menu -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools.

    You can also permanently disable system restore and shadow copies for individual drives in:
    Control Panel -> System -> System protection
    But then you won't have any way to restore, unless you use a good backup program.
