I am in the market for a new laptop, in particular an i7 laptop. All the major manufacturers have either released, shipped or announced i7 laptops by now and I was wondering if I missed the rumor or article detailing Sony's plans for i7.
Thanks for any help you may provide.

Dude, seriously. There have been COUNTLESS posts on Sony and i7.

) I did a keyword search in the Sony subforum for i7 and it returned 0 results.
So dont be an a$$ and try to be helpful. It was an honest question. Can anyone other than Wolf04 help me please. -
A Quick summary of the numerous threads that has been started regarding this.
No, there will most likely be no i7 Vaios coming out. This is due to the usual thin form factor that Sony uses.
The i7 generates quite a lot of heat, which means Sony has to do one of the following:
1. Invent some ingenious cooling solution.
2. Make their laptops thicker/bigger to be able to implement a bigger heatsink.
There has been no announcements regarding Sony + i7, and i doubt there will be until a 2nd or 3rd generation i7 is released by Intel with a lower TDP. -

Some discussions of Core i5 / Core i7 on Vaio Z on this thread:

No it's possible. If you look at AW serie, you will notice that the previous model with full available functions (Like T9900 or 1TB HDD) has been moved from the list of Vaio laptops. The reason is Sony will release a new version of AW serie with the i7 processor.
It makes sense since AW serie is a desktop replacement with 18.4 screen that is suitable for i7 processor -
I meant to look at Sony Style website at AW serie. the current AW serie's specification is too low. CW is still far better, whichis not making any sense.
The new AW serie with i7 processor is coming. Believe me. -
There has been already Mobile Intel Quad Core CPUs released before the i7.
These are the Q9100 and Q9000.
These 2 Quad Core CPU's TDP (Thermal Design Power): 45W
The i7 mobile processor right now is the 720QM, 820QM, 920XM, which have the TDP of 45W, 45W, 55W respectively. Which means overall they are same heat emission or even higher depending on which CPU you get. These 3 processors are true Quad Cores, which have hyper-threading, therefore it means it allows 8 threads to be executed on the cpu at one time.
Extremely hard to speculate if they will touch Quad cores or not as of yet, as they didn't even bother touching the quad cores when they came out. From the TDP the quad cores didn't change much in terms of "heat".
Intel is releasing some new mobile i7 & i5 at the end of the year, which possibly the AW Series will get. These CPUs are based off Arrandale core. These are the "successors" to the core 2 duo series, they are dual cores which have hyper-threading, therefore allowing 4 threads to be executed on the cpu at one time. Most of the CPU's in this series carry the same TDP as Core 2 Series, which ranges from 18-35W.
Don't mistaken true quad core to fake quad core. Multithreading helps in some applications if you understand how threads works. However If you compare true quad core to fake quad core, in terms of raw power it is still about half. Quite a few benchmarks on the web even show Multithreading as being a marketing "gimmick", and provides a "placebo" effect of being faster when you see double the "cores" in your task manager. Some benchmarks have showed that multithreading does provide higher scores... however not that much of a improvement with it on or off.
There has been no hints (or leaks) from Sony any where regarding a i7 laptop as of yet. -
Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
I'm guessing when the current Clarksfield i7s shrinks down to 32nm coupled with a integrated graphics controller early next year will Sony then release a core i7 laptop then.
