for SR/Z owners, by now you are aware of the apparent battery drain issue but it is not clear at this time whether the problem is real, or whether there is just a problem with the vista battery indicator.
i am wondering if we can test if the laptop is indeed draining power when shut off with a tool like the P3 Kill-A-Watt?

That device measures power consumption. If the laptop is indeed drawing power from the battery, then with AC plugged in, the battery will be discharging and charging at the same time even when shut down, so a device like the Kill-A-Watt should show consumption?
Too bad I don't have such a device, but hoping someone who does can test.

Tests are good, but is Sony listening?

well, if it can be ascertained that the laptop is indeed drawing power even when shutdown, Sony cannot not listen - they will have to fix it or recall the products. the problem now is we don't even know what the problem is...

You don't really need a device. If your battery drain is let's say 20% in 8 hours, just leave it power off for 24 hours, and manually test if you actually lost 60%.
A good way to run down the battery rather quick is with playing a DVD at loud volume and at the same time running a background virus scan.
idea for SR/Z battery drain test
