Hi all,
I've just received my new little TX1HP and noticed that the memory is operating at 333 MHz though the system would support 400 MHz in principal.
Is there anyway to pump up the memory speed to the max. value ? The BIOS menu doesn't seem to provide any options for this.
Generally I'm pleased with the speed of the device but every once in a while I'll be using it for imaging and (minor) gaming so a little extra speed would come handy even if it means to sacrifice a little battery performance.
Any ideas ?
Thx
Klaus

This is a limitation of the RAM itself. Faster RAM really isn't going to make a meaningful difference though.

Upgrading to DDR400 from your DDR333 speed won't help, or make any noticable difference - there might be up to a 2.5% performanc increase, so that is negligable.
Also, I think Sony might have set limitations on the RAM speed - I know that on a lot of notebooks, the chipsets potentionall support up DDR400, but they will only go to DDR333.

Aaahh, no folks. The installed memory is DDR400 and DDR533 respectively. On paper the chipset is capable to access the memory at 400MHz yet the system is configured to do so at 333 MHz.
The TX series uses a shared memory graphics card so an increase from 333 to 400 MHz would be quite substantial for (basic) gaming - certainly _much_ more than just 2.5%. For business applications this will not make much of a difference naturally.

It's possible that your DDR533 memory can't scale to DDR400 properly so it goes to DDR333, assuming the bios supports DDR400 (can't see why it wouldn't).

The DDR533 RAM resides in the expansion slot. Even without it the system is set to 333 MHz.

Now, are you using DDR2-533? I've never heard of DDR533 in notebooks before.
Sounds like the motherboard limits the memory speed to 333MHz, the only way I know to get it higher is to overclock it yourself...and that is often dangerous, not recommended. -
Yes, the on-board memory is (512MB) DDR2-400 whereas the added memory is (1GB) DDR2-533 in my case (suggested by Transcend for this machine).
