I know the UPEK is for login etc. What is the infineon for?

infineon is for tpm software. if you have a fingerprint sensor...you can turn on the tpm in your bios(f2 when computer first comes on) and setup "tpm + pin" or tpm + smart card for extra security when logging into windows. that goes along w/ your fingerprint of course.

And if you wonder what TPM really does, it stores an additional key on a chip on the motherboard. Unless that key matches, decryption can't take place.
So if someone rips out your harddrive, they can't decompress your files on a different machine. If you back up files to an Internet backup service, they can't read them. Even if you store your key there too, as long as they don't have the TPM key stored on your motherboard.
The big problem is that if your motherboard gets shot, and Sony replaces it, you can't read your files either. Nor will a restored backup work then.
If you're unsure whether you need TPM, you don't.
infineon tpm package? UPEK QL protector suite?
