I have a couple of questions and I hope someone can answer them.

Would the intel x25m fit in the VAIO Z? Does it use the same mounting points as regular drives?

Will there be any issues with using it in the VAIO Z?

Would one recommend the samsung 128gb MLC over the x25m for use in the Z?

All hard disc drives and SSDs have the same layout for screws for the most part. So, as long as the Intel is the same dimension size (i.e. 2.5" or 1.8"), you should be fine. Same goes for using it in the Z, you shouldn't have any problems. As for whether to get the Intel versus the Samsung, it really is personal choice. While the Samsung is cheaper and has more storage space, it is also slower than the Intel. That being said, either will be faster and provide better battery life in comparison to the disc drives that come natively in the Z series.

Yes it will fit. I had one at work that we were evaluating and put it in my Z591U. Blisteringly fast, although I'm not running with it anymore.

IMO, the X-25 is the best MLC SSD out, beating most SLC devices. Intel really changed the game with these drives. That being said, I'm not going to buy one until the next release which will have larger capacities.

I just ordered a vaio Z wih the intel X25m from portableone.com Thier prices are cheaper than ordering from sony, and they allow to get an ssd plus blue ray, something you cant get directly from sony.

Some people have said SSD + Bluray is a bad combination because of the contstant buffering of the Bluray drive on the SSD. Whether this is true or not I don't know.

I personally doubt that it is true, as Sony also sells SSD+ Bluray. But Sony uses SLC afaik.

I dont really understand what this article is trying to say but form the data posted, it looks like the intel x25m is faster than the RAID0 SSD in z590. Im I correct?

Isn't RAID 0 supposed to be really fast? I doubt an SLC RAID 0 configuration would be outperformed by an MLC?

Anandtech has a nice write up and results that show that the Intel X25 can be on par or better with SLC. It seems to depend on what sort of access is being made to the SSD. SLC still beats MLC for multitasking performance.

Why do you think that Sony uses SLC?

I read some test result about Z's RAID 0 SSD. It is really fast but still very expensive.
I'm looking forward about more tests on intel's.

One thing I worry about RAID 0 is when either one SSD dies, both won't work. It will be like there are only even number pages of a book and the odd number pages are ruinned.

    There's always the warranty.
What interests me is would the x25-m actually beat the RAID 0 SLC in performance. After all its UATA for the RAID 0 but I don't know if UATA will be a bottleneck for the RAID 0 SLCs.

    anyone knowledgeable can chime in?
