I bought my notebook through Sony Style Canada, so I'm sure their policies are different than the US branch, but with them it's $200 for 1 year and $330 for 2 years on a notebook like the SZ160.

However, with them the warranties are purely an extension of the original terms and conditions, no bonus accident or wear or whatever clauses. So I decided not to bother, and instead used a credit card that offers a 1 year bonus warranty (again an extension of the original terms and conditions)... figure that ought to hold things for long enough.

the most expencive is the oine i'd have to get...

3 year onsite service + coverage for accidental damage from handling (299)

But if it isn't worth a flip...i'm not buying it :p

I never go for those warranties. I never can figure out what they are really going to cover. If you listen to Best Buy idiot sales people you'll be convinced you can throw your laptop in front of a bus and walk in and get a brand new one. Read the fine print and its a different story.

In fact there are all those different types of insurance now, like accidental damage, blah blah blah.. if you got all the options you'd be paying like what, $800 for a $2k laptop!!!

I also just double my warranty thru my citibank card. My gf did it last time and had no trouble getting reimbursed when her HD went bad. Most likely they have so few claims since no one ever uses that service with their CC that they approve anything. In her case we just went to Fry's got a new drive, then sent in the receipt. No issues, no need to take it to some "official laptop repairman" or mail it in. Very hassle free!

Ive experianced sony's customer service (lol) in both the UK and the USA, they are both terrible, save your money and use it to sue them when they default on the original 1 year warranty when your notebook breaks

No diminishing returns on new technology. No guarantee over the basic 1 year is worth it.
