    is tz250 good for someone who only surfs the net and likes portability--speedwise

    No, the speed would be more than sufficient, I wouldn't worry about it. It MAY be slow for you because of resource hungry Vista and all of Sony's bloatware but if you remove the bloatware or install XP, then its quite fine.

    I have no problem, but I am running XP and with only 1gb of ram, the TZ250 thankfully comes with 2gb to handle Vista better.

    Sony TZ is great for that use. I also put XP pro on my laptop and it is much much faster than vista. But even a tweaked vista would be fine for that use. I constantly have multiple apps open and get great performance! Plus you cant beat the size with an optical drive!

    Vista is fine with 2gb RAM, Service Pack 1, and all the bloatware disabled from startup or removed. I'm now quite happy with Vista on my TZ180, I wasn't at first, though. You have to disable the bloatware to have Vista run acceptably.
