Hey everyone. I replaced my Sony FE890 with a Seagate 7200rpm hard drive. It took me a while to get the format going cuz stupid Sony made it so freain confusing. Now I have another problem...

Before I formatted my computer, I created a partition, C drive (windows and all the other stuff) and D drive (my documents). When I formatted with the Sony Recovery CDs, it removed the partition I've created. And now it is a single drive again! What the heck is going on? What is the proper way to format the computer when using the Recovery CDs? Any help would be great.

    HURRY =)

I'm not sure how your Recovery CD is set up, but it sounds like it does not give you the option to create partitions while installing its image onto the drive. I've had some recovery disks do the same.

If you need the partition--perhaps something like Partition Magic will help you once you've got your drive re-imaged.

OMG if that is the case then it really sucks! I do remember something about it going back to "default" c: drive, but I thought that was just installing it back to original OS. Yea I was planning to use Partition Magic too to later on separate it again, but I was wondering what if later in the future I need to format C again and I don't want to keep backing out my D drive. Anyone with Sony computer can help me? I would greatly appretiate it.

hey! I know you have the FE890 -- the newest model up from me.

If yours is anything like mine my Sony recovery process gave me no option to make a partition. I have the 790G.

I made the partition myself with fdisk through dos. But then when I tried using the Recovery Disc it completely removed the partition, which is pissing me off. Is there a way to keep the partition?

I tried everything you have except Magic and as you said the recovery disks rewrote over anything I already made.

So do you have a single partition now?

I don't know if following will work on your FE because I have SZ but you can try:

    - Boot your FE with recovery CD
    - When options appear try this one:
    - It will give you a choice to recover recovery partition also. Choose NOT to recover.
    - Then it will give you options on how do you want your partitions to look. At this point, you can choose whole space to be one partition or shrink C: and, in that way, leave some unallocated spaced to make another partition.

There, I believe it should also be option to leave partitions "as they are" and continue with recovery on C: as it is.

    Hope this help. :)

I did the option of creating a partition with the Sony's Recovery CD way. So now I have a C: and D: drive. So lets say in the future I need to format C:, do I follow your direction and it'll keep my D: drive (including the files on it?)

Frankly, I don't know for sure, because I haven't tried yet.

But I believe it should work. Perhaps you could try and see if it's working before you start to fill your disk with data that you'll need in the future. :)
