From my experience with Sony, check your "Programs and Features". The last Sony laptop I dealt with had so much rubbish installed on it when it arrived that out of the box it had more than 80 runnning processes, most of which were pointless. This probably isn't exactly what you were looking for here, but it'll probably help you get the most out of your laptop.

Well always good to check if it's generally ok meaning if there are any colour bubbles or not-that-well-attatched pieces especially around the screen. Check if it's different from the other side of the notebook (.5mm gap on left side of screen, 1mm on other) Cant think of anything else. Glad to hear about your screen. Maybe I still have hope..

By that, do you mean the following? I just noticed this last night. The other sides are not as bad, but still noticeable. I have onsite warranty, and I hope it's something they can fix without sending it in. Would the screen need to be replaced or what?

Hmm what part in your picture is the fault in? It's somewhat blurry (the picture) What I ment with the "not-that-well-attatched-pieces" was to check the gap thats between the "screenside" panel and the top of the notebook. I dont know how to explain it but should be easy to spot if its different from the other side of the panel(the gap I have is approx .75mm-1mm, and I hope that is normal). The black colour between the coloured part of the screen and the panel is normal, as long as its not noticiable (as in really big/thick) or different from other parts from the screen.

EDIT: Saying this just because I had this exact thing with my first screen but it popped in place by just applying some pressure on the big gap. It made a clicking noice and stuck firmly after that. With my new screen there is still a slightly bigger gap on one side but it wont click and close as it did the first time. (Sony said: oh? :D). But if you find any problems with your screen the onsite guy should be able to fix it without sending it in, aslong as he/she has ordered the part(s) needed in advance.

also...is the optical drive supposed to be pretty loud? i mean...it doenst click or anything, but you can definitely hear it spinning and it causes slight vibrations in the laptop....is that normal? or is that only for the first couple times?

Check if you have sound. I had a TXN without a functional sound. Check if both your speakers work and drain your battery completely and recharge it.
