mmmk possibly a silly questions here, but my FW140D just had a hickup...

everything still works, but when i press the volume button, i dont get the little volume bar (display on screen) anymore... the volume button still works but no longer any display to show where my volume level is at...

does anyone know how to fix this? or any suggestions?

    Thanks

This doesn't just happen all by itself. What has been recently done to the machine? Any new drivers, tweaks, services turned off etc?

no new drivers / tweaks etc

ive actually never updated the drivers on this machine (got it when theyfirst came out) because i honestly dont know how lol and dont want to mess with a good thing (if it isnt broke, why fix it type of attitude)

Only thing i can think of that is new to the system is an itunes /quick times automatic update that took place... other than that, there is nothing new on the machine...

would an itunes update do this to the machine ?

iTunes shouldn't do this. But who knows with Apple. I hate iTunes with the arrogant way it assumes control over your library. Don't get me started on that...

But to your issue. Does your on screen display for brightness still work? Or is this just an issue with the volume?

Have you rebooted the machine since this problem popped up? I ask this because once in a while my on screen display of volume or brightness will go away (very rare but does happen like once in a month or two of almost constant use). When it does happen, a reboot brings it right back. (Actually, some times just logging off and logging back on has fixed it.)

But if a reboot doesn't fix it there are more fundamental issues. Before we get into those, answer the questions above.

you sir are my new hero lol

i dont ever shut down my computer because i am lugging it to and from classes without time for start up / shut down so i use the sleep mode

after restart my volume buttons, and my brightness buttons (which i didn't know it wasn't displaying until you asked) are now in proper working order

Next time it happens you MIGHT be able to get them back by just logging off and back on. Several of us have experienced the same issue you had, but have never been able to pinpoint why it suddenly pops up.
