I just hope it comes before the new year!!! Have school coming up soon.

The final total before tax was just over $1600... I wanted some serious multi-tasking power and wanted a system that would handle vista like butter.
    my config was a
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7200
    2gb of RAM
    geforce 7600 128mb
    120gb hd(question: 4200rpm or 5200rpm?)
    DVD burner combo
    xp media center

so what do you people think of this config?
by the way... how is media center compared the pro? I am used to pro, so is there a significant flaw in media center? Don't really care about all the extra security on pro... its for personal use at home and school.

Great choice man. The FE790 is a very attractive notebook for a great price. I almost ordered one myself, until I figured out how much more resolution I craved. I ended up ordering an HP dv9000t. I still eye the FE790 lovingly though. You should be extremely happy with that setup. Media Center is basically a fused version of Pro and Home. It has more features than Home, but less business-like ones than pro. It has specific media capabilities, and compatible with remote controls. Its a great pick if you want to use it as an entertainment pc. Good choice man, I know you'll enjoy it!

it's a huge difference between WUXGA and WXGA, but anyway, it's normal for 15.4"
hope you like it :D, and prepare a few pieces of paper because the battery would flicker a little bit. One more thing, FE's keyboard is very vulnerable to small particles. Last week my cousin ate a cake while using it and i don't know how to get those small piece out of my keyboard :(

Congratulations on your purchase. It will be a big difference in resolution from your WUXGA, but I wouldn't worry about it. I think you'll love your new laptop.

You could use compressed air or a mini-vacuum.

i'm considering the fe790 because of the plain WXGA screen (HiColor version). i have WUXGA on my older laptop and 1920x1200 on a 15" screen is just too much of a PITA to look at. You can increase the DPI of course but not everything scales well. Windows still ain't got that right.

farhan007: let us know when you get a shipping notice, I'm curious how it takes for Sony.

i saw wxga screens on 15" notebooks and it looks about perfect to me though.... My old dell was 17", so it made sense to get a higher resolution.
I think at 15" a higher resolution screen would have me squinting.

BTW, about the shipping question.... My email said expected ship date on the 27th.... but i already heard the horror stories of sony style service... so i expect the worse. Its comming up to two days since i placed the order and the order still hasn't finished processing. I thought that would be the speediest part of the process because thats the part sony takes money from me...

When I ordered my SZ340 from sonystyle (one of the CTO SZ's), my order was stuck in processing for several days too ---- then it moved to 'in construction' (or whatever that step is called) --- then it shipped out at a shipdate that was several days earlier than the estimated ship date.

    It's tough to wait!

HOLY **** CAKE!!!! Sony style did a complete 180 reversal on my brain.... I checked my mail today and it said it has been shiped!!! Then i checked my tracking number and it HAS BEEN OVERNIGHTED!!!! WOW!!! Expected ship date was SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE 27th!!!!!!! Plus they changed my shiping option to overnight fedex!!!

And everything I heard about sonystyle was horrible.... THANK YOU SONY!!!

Now i have to call in late to work.... Expected ship time is 3pm...

    You'll like it!

I'm about 10 days into my FE780 and I'm buying it a firewire sound card today so I guess that means we are married. I kept the media center windows and even though I'm quite fond of Pro it doesn't seem that different.

Otherwise it is handling my midisport and external hd and a wacom tablet and handling a soft synth load with ease that would totally crash my old P4 box.

Higher screen res and better battery life would be nice to have but I'm sold on the power and the screen looks so **** good!

JUST GOT IT IN!!! I am typin on it now!!!

the first think i checked is how good the screen is... it has some minor light leakage on the bottom but other than that.... THE SCREEN IS BEAUTIFUL!

It would be a tad bit more secure on my purchase if it has a slightly higher res... maybe wsxga. But again, this isnt a 17" notebook so a extremely high resolution is not needed.

I am used to 9+ pound notebooks. The first time I picked up this notebook, I knew I could tag this along anywhere i went. Its LIGHT for my standards.
The notebook has a nicer look to it than I thought it would.

So far everything is running like butter.... this core 2 duo is AMAZING!! Even with all this **** bloatware...

Speaking of bloatware, I am too lazy to do a clean install of windows because I am afraid that I wont be able to find all the right drivers... SO can someone give me a hand on how to remove all the bloatware and what programs i need to clean the registry... Plus it would help if I knew what programs i need and dont need so i can delete all the junk on my hard drive...

One (indirect) way to "remove" bloatware is using the backup utility (i found this somewhere else on this site, not sure where). Basically, when using the sony utility to restore the drive to factory conditions, it installs all the important stuff, then reboots, then all the bloatware. So if you eject the backup dvd right after windows boots for the first time, it won't install.

wow!! i just ordered mine on the 22th, with pretty much the same specs, wonder if they'll upgrade my shipping too, it says scheduled for production on the 22th as well

also, in response to the question about bloatware, won't the drivers that you need after you do a full format be available on the restore cd?
