Is there any way I can program my US keyboard so that swedish letters å, ä, ö, Å, Ä, Ö, can be used just by pressing a few keys? Like two keys for each letter, say for example "Alt" + "C" for the å?

As it is now I can get the letters by long key combinations: "Num Lk", "Alt" + "M", "K", "K", "9", gives the å. But it really makes writing slow and akward.

    Thanks a million!

I'm assuming that you want to type this regularly though. You'll probably want to check out the language bar (XP) or the multi-language stuff (Vista) to "reconfigure" your keyboard for swedish. Also, you should be able to set up your keyboard drivers for Swedish by going into the control panel and fixing a few settings.

This isn't Sony specific, so you would do better to ask in a non-Sony-specific group. By posting here, you just prevent a lot of people who know the answer but don't have a Sony from seeing your post.

That said, open the "Regional and Language Settings" in the control panel (Classic View). Go to the "Keyboards and Languages" tab, then click "Change keyboards...".
Now, click "Add" and choose "Swedish (Sweden)" (or "Swedish (Finland)" if you're Finlandssvensk). Click the plus next to the language, then expand "Keyboard" with the plus too, and check the box for "Swedish". Hit OK.
Now go to the "Language Bar" tab, and set the "Language Bar" to "Docked in the taskbar" if it isn't already.
Then go to the "Advanced Key Settings" bar, and verify that the action for "Between input languages" is set to Left Alt+Shift.
    Finally, hit "Apply".

Now you should see a little icon saying "EN" at the bottom right, next to the dock area of the toolbar. Hit Left Alt+Shift, and it will change to SV. You can now type like if you had a Swedish keyboard in the window you were in when you hit Alt+Shift. Just hit that key combo again to switch back to EN.

As mentioned, the hotkey here will only switch the keyboard for the active window. And it won't remember the choice between sessions. So look at the taskbar indicator when in doubt.
But it is still a great time saver, if you have learned to touch type on a national keyboard. Especially because when you type one national letter, chances are you're going to type more of them in the same window.

Thank you very much! After some frustrating testing I finally got it, and found the Å,Ä,Ö,å,ä,ö keys when the keyboard is in SV position. It can be a bit tricky using SV, because several other keys also changes. I may have to buy letter stickers and put on the keys. But SV certainly makes it a lot easier to write åäö, than the old way with "Num Lk", which I did for about a year. Your help is much appreciated!
