    Hi.

I want to install linux on my vaio vgn sz notebook. Question though, do all the functions work with linux distros, like camera, sound, video, etc.

I'm thinking of replacing my windows OS with Centos.

    Thanks!

I believe sidux ( www.sidux.com) will work, too. I have seen folks posting there about their sony notebooks. I also hear good things about PCLinux, if you want to try that.

I thought centos was a server distro. Are you sure that's the one you want to install?

Go to tuxmobil ( http://tuxmobil.org/sony.html) to find out what other people are installing on their Sony notebooks and what kind of success they have.

    Have fun!

Sidux works great on my notebook (See sig.) and all my desktops. 64 bit version is great on my quadcore workstation, too. Sidux is debian based, fwiw, and quite user friendly.

    ok i installed ubuntu.

things look good except for a couple things.

    1. hibernate does not work? Laptop does not go in standby or hibernate when i close the lid.
    2. camera not working, how do I get this to work.
    3. wireless driver is showing as restricted driver
    4. fingerprint not working.
    5. hdd shock protection not working.
    6. resolution is at 1280x800 but icons look a tad to big and spaced too
far out. is there a way to reduce icon size and spacing?
    7. printer (brother wireless MFC) showed it was working, but i printed a test page and nothing came up
    8. stamina->speed switch and WWAN not working

other than these everything looks good. a lot faster than vista :)
