I have a Vaio VPCZ2290X. It came with two small-capacity 64G SSDs. This was due to flooding at the Thai factories causing an SSD shortage.

I want to replace these two 2.5 SSDs with one high-capacity SSD. I'm looking for some sort of guide or instructions.

Not even sure whether I have to buy Sony drives or can use something else.

    Thanks ...

I found a link showing me how to take the Vaio Z2 apart:

But looking at the SSD, I didn't see what I was expecting. I had been told that my Z consisted of TWO 64G SSDs.

I only see one, and it looks like 128G. Maybe it's the equivalent of two 64G pieces on one card ?

    From the current card:
    P/N MZRPC128HACD-000S0
    Model: MZ-RPC1280/0S0
    KCC-REM-SEC-MZ-RPC512

    1131 REV 0 F/W CXM03S1Q
    S/N S0T6NY0B800964

SO .... if this is accurate, then I'm wondering what drive I can replace this with. Do I need a particular
type of non-Sony replacement SSD ?

Will the current cable fit a non-Sony brand SSD ?

Are these regular 2.5" SSD's? With cases?

I don't have a Z2, but from what I've heard there are two SSDs in there because they are configured as a RAID which doubles the effective speed. So stick with the x2 configuration. For instance, 256GBx2 will give you 512GB.

I had a much easier time because I had purchased an HDD model - no SSDs; no optical drive; a regular 2.5" HDD in a caddy in place of the optical drive. All I needed to do was to buy a 2.5" SATA SSD and swao it out.

You will have to get the SSD that fits the connector cable that is in your model. I remember seeing it in this forum; you need to search for it.
