Is there a way to recover laptop without the recovery disk? I'm told there may be this function on the computer itself...but don't know how to get there..thanks!

Through the VAIO recovery center or from a backup yes.

If you don't have either of those, try using a good antivirus software to get rid of the virus.

    I highly recommend Malwarebytes.

Reboot the machine. After the BIOS splash screen appears, hit F10 just before it changes to booting, and the recovery screen should appear.

The F10 is VERY timing sensitive, and combined with the BIOS only caching a few key strokes it means you can't just hammer the key or hold it down. You have to hit it at the right time, after the BIOS, but before the boot. You can hit the key a couple of times to maximize your chances, but any more, and the computer will disregard your input.
