It seems like the longer i run my computer the idle ram usage increases. This even counts running it for about an hour or two.

Usually its at 24% but it rises to 30 and even 40%. Trying to figure out where the increase is coming from. Do you guys get this problem?

Generally the Page File does build up and you have to restart you computer to dump it (or log off, I think that works to). But are you saying that you just let the computer sit there, because that would be a different story.

I'm guessing you are running Vista. If you are, this is what Vista does. Unused ram gets used so then you can open certain programs and windows faster. Happens with my Vaio too. Usually when Im idled, my usage goes down to around 35%. Suddenly after an hour or so, it goes to around 55+.

right i am using vista. So youre saying its caching the programs i have opened beforehand. Vista knows to dump that when i run an intensive program though right?

Correct. What program your using at the moment that demands lots and lots of memory like Firefox or Photoshop or whatever, Vista takes memory from other programs your not running and uses it for Firefox, photoshop or whatever. After your done using Firefox, photoshop etc, Vista releases all that memory back to those programs it took it from in the first place.

    Superfetch, I believe its called.
