i just got my SZ650n 3 days ago. at first everything is all right. then i remove some useless software from the system, and use Acronis.Disk.Director.Suite.v10 to create more partions out of original c drive. after i reboot it. the hard drive keep spining and never stop, unless you turn the compute off. i've download the "hdd protector" and "hdd protector software" from the official website. but this kind problem still remains.
then i formate the c drive, and put a fresh vista ultimate in it, but the hard drive is still spinning, seems it will never stop.
did anyone encounted this kind problem? how to solve it? thanks.

Are you expecting your hard drive to power down after a set number of minutes? If so have you checked your power settings in the control panel?

In Vista, Go to Start/Control Panel/System and Maintenance/Power Options

i've swith the power option from high performance to max battery to balance, but none of them works. the hard drive is still keep spinning.
i only removed one software that's related to sony, is callled "vaio access bar"
will this software be the one that cause this kind problem?
now, i've try to shut the system down, it's almost 25min since i press the shut down button. the hard drive is still spinning. it drive me crazy.

Welcome to Windows Vista. HD thrashing/spinning is normal, as Vista continuously makes a file index and defrags on the fly. It is supposed to do this when the system is idol (ie. you are not using it for other tasks)
