So out of nowhere, my ctrl key dies, both of them on my sz110. They just don't work! At least I'm still under the 1 year warranty. I've never had to deal with Sony support before, so I'm curious on how fast their repair time takes.
Anybody get their keyboard replaced by Sony? How fast did that take? I use this laptop for school so how long it takes is important.![]()

Sony claims 10 business days from the time they receive the computer at their tech support. I have never actually had it take ten days. When you call tech support to set this up they will send you a box. That box is overnighted to you. Pack the box (It is a DIY deal) and drop it off at FEDEX. It is prepaid overnight. So if the day you called is day one on your own calendar, you are dropping it off at FEDEX on day 2. On day 3 Sony will call you asking a bunch of obvious questions making you wonder if they were paying attention when you talked to the tech previously. You will already have been assigned a case number and you can track all of this online through Sony support. The computer information online is rather basic. After teh phone call from tech support (they just ask you to describe the problem again) for my cases it took another day for the repair. Now this is not the rule, but EVERY time I have sent a computer back to Sony, they re image the hard drive. They have always called though on day 4 or 5 for this. You will hear horror stories about people getting back repaired computers with reimaged hard drives and they were not asked. I have always received a phone call. I have no idea what happens if you say no, do not re image. Maybe you have to pay for a new hard drive or back up media. I do not know. Anyway, I have received my computers back on the day 5 to 6 when I have sent them in. The Sony Support site is usually still saying that the tech will have it for 10 business days. Obviously weekends need to be factored in. Sony does not do repairs on the weekends that I know of. And their next day mail, is not Saturday delivery. So plan that all in on your calculation.

Thanks! Strangely enough, after an entire day of NOT working, my ctrl key decides its time to start working. I wonder if maybe something inside is just loose, but taking the keyboard out to take a look probably voids the warranty. I guess I'll just wait to see if this happens again, then I'll contact Sony support.

The first time I sent in a laptop to Sony, the guy I talked to said he'd have it back to me in a week ------ a week later, it was back in my hands. I actually really like the boxes they ship out to you to send your laptop back in -- they take a few minutes to figure out, but once you have them all put together they seem incredibly sturdy and suitable for laptop transportation.. more suitable than anything I could put together, anyway.
I have been called by Sony techs on weekends before -- or at least representatives of techs (letting me know what fixes they made, etc, before sending it back). The last weekend call I got was close to 9pm on a Sunday night ---- which I thought was pretty weird. -
The ctrl key keeps working for a while then stopping. Seems to work ok for a few days then die for a few days and repeat. I finally called Sony and they said they'd send me a box to ship my laptop in.
It's been 5 weekdays and no box! The first customer service rep told me I'd get it within 24 hours. The next one I called told me 2-3 business days. The third one, which I called today, said to call back tomorrow because they didn't have a tracking number for the box yet. (I didn't even know FedEx did such a thing for boxes). Frustrating but I sure hope I get one sooner or later.
my sz110 ctrl key died =(
